The Best Beginning with P&C

Here's my deal:
Just starting out, but I need to get moving quickly and start producing.
I have signed on with an agency with a specialty in life products, but I think that I would prefer to deal with P&C exclusively (they are allowing me to do so).
Big Problem: I don't have a mentor.

I've read that the way to go is to pick a product and work it for at least six (6) months. If so, what is the best product to start with?

I had formerly worked in a field with prof. liability issues, so I was thinking that or auto...
Help if you can.

stick with personal lines policies first as these are much easier and work your way into small commercial BOP's.

You should look around on this forum for marketing tips for both.
