Truckers insurance

Looking for resources on insuring truckers properly. It seems to be a niche market and I'd like to tap into it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crouse wholesalers and Bhhc insure it here in California. There are a bunch of direct markets like Progressive and Crusader too, but you need a special appointment, and they are hard to get. Crouse and Bhcc is where I would start, but again, that's here in California.

Hi David,
I'm a trucking specialist in Texas. I'm actually also in the process of opening another location in Charleston, SC. You will find plenty of information on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In regards to transportation appointments, they are really hard to get. I'd start with Progressive and once you get a decent book of business with them, go try with other markets. It'll be easier that way.

-Progressive is an easy appointment but they usually ask for 50% down -which many prospects can’t afford.
-Align can be competitive.
-BBHC is another good option.

Owner operators are much harder to write since most markets are hard to get appointed with. Fleets are on many GA’s appetite and you should have more markets there..

Definitely read up on fmcsa for guidelines. As for carriers, Progressive for sure, although their appetite is changing, they're still one of the most easiest carriers to work with for trcuking. They rate heavily on credit, garaging zip and of course mvr. Down payments are never 50% ( at least not in the states I write in, I've yet to see that in all my years of writing with them and specializing in trucking ) great credit will give the lowest d/p of all carriers and I've seen payment in full on rare occasion.
Also look up MGAs who specialize in trucking to gain access to other carriers like Nico while you build your book and premiums. A lot of carriers have tightened their belts and won't take on new agents or agents with a small premium base.
