US News and World Report does a survey every year. I think they do it in November. It focuses on group health insurance.

Thx for the link, Louise, but (at least for Georgia) that reports on group plans and Medicaid. I am still leery of consumer polling since it is based more on emotion than scientific fact.

Is there an easy way to tell how much a company spends on claims as a percentage of premium?

Some state insurance department websites mandate a minimum percentage and post this information on their sites. However, it is harder to find this information for other states.

Maine's insurance department website shows this information. See "Dollar Amount Spent on Claims and % of Premium 2007" near the middle of the page.

I think it is a very valuable piece of information.

Is anyone surprised that Mega is at 55% and nobody else is below 79%?
