UPDATE: Reports of the death of CLU was exagerated

And the designation is no longer listed under "designations & degrees" from The American College.

Why is that? Because no one knew what the "LU" really stood for. What's a "life underwriter" anyway?

The Society of CLU and ChFC rebranded to Society of Financial Services Professionals in 1998.
NALU rebranded to NAIFA back in 1999.
The American College 'dumped' LUTCF in favor of creating FSCP in 2013.

It's certainly no surprise that CLU would finally be discontinued.

If one wants a life and annuity specific designation, you'd have to go with NAIFA's LACP introduced last year:

I still sign my emails (and occasional letter) with CLU.

Most folks thought I was a Certified Life underwriter.

Yeah, whatever.

UPDATE: They updated the website and CLU is back.

But it wouldn't be hard to believe they'd eliminate it one day.
