Wanting to become an agent

Hello,

i currently work for an auto insurance company handling claims. However i would like to become an agent and work for myself and i would like to know where to start? If anyone out there can help put me in the right direction or send me some helpful site. I live in massachusetts and we have a new auto insurance reform that is going through and is making our state more competitive. And would like some help or advise on trying to change from handle auto and homeowners claims to opening my own agency.

My understanding is the P&C business is different from the life or health business. I don't think carriers will appoint people willy nilly unless they have a track record. Call some agents in your company and ask them about the process. Some of the larger agencies might be willing to take you on, give you a small book to service and let you run it.

After you get your feet wet you can move on to independence.
