HealthSherpa announces approved vendor status for plan year 2023 agent and broker marketplace trainings

Insurance Forums Staff

HealthSherpa, the largest private channel for Marketplace enrollment, this week announced that they will be a CMS approved training vendor for plan year 2023 Federally-facilitated Marketplace training and certification.

This training option will be free, and Agents and Brokers can access it through the Marketplace Learning Management System (MLMS).

In addition to Marketplace training for new and returning agents, HealthSherpa will offer additional training on Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE), which is the technology that allows web-broker and qualified health plan (QHP) issuer entities to host the Federally-facilitated Marketplace (FFM) application and enrollment services on their own site.

“HealthSherpa loves agents and agencies and wants to support them in every way we can,” said George Kalogeropoulos, CEO and co-founder of HealthSherpa. “I’m excited to demonstrate our commitment to our 45,000 agent partners by helping them with state and federal certification and licensing requirements for free.”

Completion of these free trainings will be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits in the following 21 states: Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington. For the remaining states, HealthSherpa plans to work on becoming a provider of free CE credits in the following years.

For Tracy McMillan, President of Marketplace Insurance Exchange, a family owned independent insurance agency, the news means her team can dedicate more time to serving their diverse client base in Arlington, Texas.

“At Marketplace Insurance Exchange, the work doesn’t stop when Open Enrollment ends. Our clients predominantly speak English as a second language. Not only is insurance foreign to them, but navigating our healthcare system is often impossible without proper education. We work all year-round to make sure they receive fair and efficient payment for claims and that the coverage exceeds their standard. Free CE credits from HealthSherpa for this upcoming year’s Marketplace training means that my team will be able to focus on what matters: educating, enrolling and empowering our clients.”

This week’s announcement comes months before the plan year 2023 Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which will begin on November 1, 2022. During the last OEP, more than 3 million lives were covered through HealthSherpa’s enrollment platform, marking a 300% year-over-year growth for the company.

Along with this training, HealthSherpa continues to build out solutions for agents, brokers, and carriers. Notably, HealthSherpa’s ICHRA enrollment enrollment solution has already surpassed 2.2x year-over-year growth for plan year 2022 compared to plan year 2021.

Since its founding in 2014, HealthSherpa has enrolled over 9 million Americans in Affordable Care Act coverage. For more information, visit https://www.healthsherpa.com.
