Insurance Careers Month campaign in full swing as industry looks to take recruiting up a notch

Insurance Forums Staff

February is Insurance Careers Month, an industry-wide initiative that aims to highlight the wide variety of career paths available in risk management and insurance, as well as support efforts to recruit the next generation of insurance professionals.

The fourth annual Insurance Careers Month rallies risk management and insurance professionals to share their pride in their careers and encourage young people to learn more about highly regarded jobs like actuary, agent, broker, risk manager and underwriter.

A number of insurance organizations first organized the event in 2016 to galvanize companies to actively share their enthusiasm for the profession, which research has found is vastly unknown by high school and college students. The goal is to encourage companies to plan their own active outreach to young people to help spread awareness of the diverse, rewarding career options in this dynamic field.

The campaign’s week three theme (Feb. 17-23) is Philanthropy and Economic Impact, Opportunity to Work Anywhere, and Variety in Your Work, while the week four theme (Feb. 24-28) is Rising Stars and Emerging Leaders, and Insurance as a Second Career.

On Sunday, Feb. 24-Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Insurance Careers Movement, the American Property Casualty Insurers Association and A.M. Best will host the Emerging Leaders Conference in Miami. During the conference, organizations are encouraged to follow the #ELC2019 and #EmergingLeadersConference hashtags to join the conversation and hear from inspiring industry leaders. Interested parties are also invited to post about emerging leaders in their organizations as a way to highlight rising stars in the industry. If your company is planning an Insurance Careers Month event such as speaking on campus, inviting students to visit your company, conducting a philanthropy event, hosting a networking event, etc., you are asked to e-mail event information to Marguerite Tortorello at [email protected] and they will help promote your event.

Throughout the month of February, participating companies are asked to use the following Insurance Careers Month hashtags on social media:

#InsuranceCareersMonth

#ICM2019

Combined Insurance promoting agent careers

Combined Insurance, a Chubb company based in Chicago that is a leading provider of individual supplemental accident and health products, and individual disability and life insurance products, is among the companies voicing its support for Insurance Careers Month this year.

In 2019, Combined Insurance is planning to expand its sales force of agents across the country, including Spanish-speaking agents and veterans looking to re-enter the workplace. The company prides itself on its sales training and onboarding process for new agents.

Combined says its full-time sales agent career offers virtually unlimited income potential as agents build their own portfolios and have access to an employee benefits package that includes insurance benefits, a 401k retirement savings plan and a discounted stock purchase plan.

“As a growing company, we’re pleased to offer a career that provides growth opportunities for individuals across the country,” said Doug Abercrombie, Senior Vice President and Chief Agency Officer at Combined Insurance. “Sales agents achieve their professional goals in a rewarding career while providing consumers with the insurance coverage when they need it most.”

Combined Insurance has previously been recognized for its diverse and military-friendly hiring practices. The company was recently named the No. 1 Military Friendly Employer in the Over $1B revenue category by VIQTORY for 2019. Additionally, Combined Insurance has been named a “Best for Vets” employer by Military Times and a Top Diversity Employer by Hispanic Network Magazine.
