2010 Supplement Change Question.

6/2010 when G's excess charge coverage goes to 100% will the existing G's get the new benefit or will they have to be re-written to get it?

Asking this for a possible new client that I'm getting off a F and taking to G, but she's worried that the excess charge will not be retro to the old policies.

Thanks

You need to do the math on this. First of all, over 99% of all physicians accept assignment. So if she find the 1 in 100 that does not, here's how it breaks down.

Assume a $1,000 claim that Medicare Approves. There will be a grand total of $92.50 if the doctor does not accept assignment left over for someone to pay.

Plan F pays the entire $92.50. Plan G pays 80% of it for a total of $74, leaving her with $18.50 remaining.

If anyone insists it really 15% of the total allowable (which it's not), the number are $150 left which Plan G pays $120 and she's left with $30.

Any of this worth the extra premium even it was a $10,000 bill?

I fully understand the plans and the rules and remote possiblity of a person even getting into that situation. Just a question I didn't have an answer to at hand.

Just a little housecleaning:

I've researched the number of doctor who accept assignment and have yet to find a current % of providers.

The 1% number quoted by several FORUM members applies to ALL CLAIMS filed in 2006. So this doesn't represent the % of doctors. And depending on your client's needs this number could be 100% -- i.e. the Rochester Mayo Clinic!
