Acqusition of HRH

Willis has grown by acquisition almost from the start. So have most of the other national (and even regional) brokerage firms.

For the longest time it seemed like every time I opened a trade pub Brown & Brown was buying someone. Can't say if they have slowed down or not.

Consolidation at the carrier level, and agency level, is a fact of life that ebbs and flows.

How many mutual life carriers are left today vs. the ones from 20 years ago?

Not that many.

Even accounting firms have merged. At one time we referred to the "big 8". Now what is it? 3 or 4?

Consolidation is good . . . to a point.

Some of it benefits the consumer, but most of it benefits the arbitrage players and M&A facillitators.
