With the new treasury regs for IRA RMDs, they're going to gain a lot of popularity.

We have about half a dozen carriers that offer them. I normally see them used as part of an overall investment/distribution strategy.

As with any product, they can be a great solution for some...not so much for others.

This summer, a new reg came out allowing the purchase of a deferred income annuity (called a QLAC) in an IRA where those assets will not be subject to RMDs.

The max is 25% of each IRA or 125k in aggregate.

The carriers are updating their contract language to conform to what the IRS wants and we expect to have products available very soon.
