Aetna Gives the Industry a Black Eye

Aetna came into MD and tripled the rates within 3 years and all but evaporated my book. If it wasn't for MHIP a lot of my clients would have been left without coverage. Kinda makes me rethink their "1st tier" status.

Most of my book is GR and Assurant anyway - when Aetna started jacking the rates most went to those two carriers - the uninsurable went to MHIP.

I build quite a large book back with Assurant's 192 Series plans - unbelievably inexpensive - everyone had $1,000 deductibles - a few chose $1,500. $25 copays and $8 name brand drug copays with no deductible. Wow...huh.

I take it that this plan is no longer around?

The real story?

They insured 17 million people. Even if 600k decide to leave, so what?

They are not "forcing" anyone to stay OR to leave.

It appears the ones they are hoping will leave are large national accounts and small group.

This does not appear to affect individual major med.
