AETNA Leaving California IFP Market 12/31/2013

5 years? This has got to be a california rule. Anyone know what the re-entry wait period is for an FFE?

Reduce competition? Double speak? Why than request the Anthem not participate in SHOP CA?

The insurance department said Aetna cannot reenter California's individual market for five years after it leaves.

Still, Jones, the state's elected insurance commissioner, said Aetna's exit "is not good news for California consumers. A competitive market with more choices for consumers is important as we implement the Affordable Care Act and health insurance coverage is a requirement.

The rule was put into place when child-only coverage was passed into law in 2010. It's state-specific for California.

Seems partly punitive, partly to avoid some carrier trying to avoid the initial open enrollment where the worst of the risk is waiting
