Anyone have experience with them on the home or commercial side? I know they’re a big agribusiness writer but outside that nothing.

Contact a local agent and ask them. See if they enjoy working for them. See if their rates are competative in your area. And find out what their commission is....that's important too! I was with them many, many years ago. Their auto and home insurance were extremely competitive in my area so it was easy to sell. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of their commissions and left. I hope their commissions have gotten better since I last wrote for them.

Its a sliding scale, 30+ % first year but of course drops by the third year to half that.

I don't know many American National Guys happy with where they are at.

Are any captive guys really happy??
American National has great Auto, Home, and Life products. If I have to chose between American National, Allstate, Farmers, or State Farm. I would take American National over the rest. But I would rather be an independent agent for the simple fact is the commissions are much larger than being a captive agent.
