Hi Everyone!

I've recently stumbled upon the forum looking to further my knowledge in the sales aspect of insurance. Just wanted to throw a quick introduction out there along with '09 goals.

A lil background about myself:
Born and raised in Southern California. I'm 24 going on 25 in a month. I joined the agency side in 2006 as an assistance to a CSR doing quoting & proposals for a commercial agent. Six months into being an assistant the producer I was working for offered me an opportunity to become a commercial insurance agent. Two months later I was on my way. I had my license and a plane ticket to Texas for 3 weeks of the National Alliance Producer School.

Since returning from school the producer/mentor who had pushed me a long left to start his own agency. Basically I was left to figure out this whole insurance thing by myself. I spent 2008 making a ton of mistakes and wasting a ton of time. I'm hoping to have a stellar 2009 in the insurance biz.

In the past year I've learned a lot but still have a lot to learn. I've noticed that this forum mostly consist of life and health agents but I'm sure most info will transfer into the commercial side as well. I know there is great potential to this career and I've dedicated myself to making it. Any information is greatly appreciated to help make this possible!

I'm a member of a couple different forums for my hobbies, so I'll try not to piss anyone off and use the search function before asking questions.

My insurance goals for 2009 are 30k in new agency commission and completing my CIC designation.

Thanks for the info and contributions to newbs like myself.

Welcome! Was the National Producers School worth it? That seems really expensive to me. Did you pay for it?

Honestly, I don't think it was worth the 3 weeks. It was a great experience for me personally but professionally I felt it was a waste of time. It seems like you spent about 3 days out of 3 weeks on the sales process and the rest is spent going over coverages. You could've cut out the whole coverage part and made the school a week long adding marketing/prospecting to the agenda and it would have been more beneficial, especially for someone who recently went through a class for their insurance license.

The agency picked up the tab so I can't complain too much. From a agency stand point you're better off pairing the new producer with a solid mentor. You get some networking with other new producers from spending 3 week with them but not worth the cost of admission.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
