Any Good Homeowner Appointment Recommendation?

Hello everyone,

I just opened my independent agency about 6 months ago. My only appointment is with Progressive & Hallmark Insurance. I have been selling commercial auto & personal line for Progressive. But when it comes to homeowner insurance, the prices are too high & my customers are running away. Can anyone suggest me any good homeowner & auto companies that I can get appointed with. And by the way, I am in Georgia. Thanks in advance!

I can highly recommend Donegal for both personal and commercial lines. They mainly operate as "Southern Insurance Company of Virginia" in Georgia. They have excellent rates on auto and HO policies and, from what I've seen, they provide better than average claims service.

State Auto is also worth checking out. Their rates aren't quite as good as Donegal, but they're still reasonable if the app has decent credit and (for auto) no more than one minor violation.

I am also an independent agent in Georgia and I write for both of those companies. I also represent a few others, but I know that they won't appoint agencies less three years old. I don't know if Donegal or State Auto have similar policies, but they're worth a shot.

Grange is another company that you might try. I don't have any experience with them, but what I've heard from others within the industry has been favorable.

Where are you located in Georgia?

Good luck!

Small and Startup agencies who are looking to be a viable agency in the marketplace and don't want to focus on non-standard auto should really consider joing a cluster or an alliance. Not doing so will put you at a huge competitive disadantage over compteting agencies.

Checking with the Ins. Dept. might be a way to locate small mutuals or co-op's. They are the type of companies who are normally more receptive to licensing fairly new agencies. Of course the cluster idea would give you access to many markets...but it will require some substantial cash outlay.
