Anyone Struggling with the Studying?

I am switching careers into insurance, have a job that I'm pretty excited about but I am really struggling with the material and with studying. I started with P&C and just am having a hard time. Any advice or anyone else going through the same thing?

Your probably over thinking the material. You don't have to know all of the material you just have to be familiar with it. Once you take your test you will find that you can figure out an answer by knowing which questions are out to lunch and then it's about 50-50% on getting the right answer.

Go through the material and answer the questions. For the study questions you get wrong read the answer and understand why. Study for 100% but just pass the test. If you do that and READ the questions on the test you will be ok. Remember a person can test for an unlimited amount of times.

Your probably just putting too much stress on yourself. Calm down. Study for the test. Give it your best. Just make sure you read every word of the test questions. Be on the look out for the word "except".

As for other advice you can do a board search on insurance testing and you will find other helpful hints.

I always struggled with the studying. I failed the Life and Heath test 3 times(usually in the 60% to 68% range) before I finally passed on the fourth attempt. I simply made unit exams on the individual chapters and kept taking them until I got a score of 90% on each chapter. I've got the P and C exam tomorrow, and it's possible I'll fail that the 1st time.

I just took (and passed) the L&H exam for the state of KS.

The studying wasn't that bad. I did it for 8 - 9 days, for an average of 3 hours a day. I found that studying the material in small chunks made it easier.

Also, the degree of difficulty can be related to the type of materials you are using such i.e., on-line, classroom, self-study books, etc. I bought an on-line course from A.D. Banker and it had a test for each chapter as well as a comprehensive test over all the material. The good thing about this was the ability to take all tests over and over and the questions would change each time so as to really make you familiar with the material.

Hang in there and take it in small chunks of material at a time.

Cutting the material in to small chunks is good advice. You may wish to try placing the pertinent information on flash cards (3 x 5 index cards) as a study aid. Heck using that method you may become a summa cum laude graduate!

These tests are NOT that hard... as long as you know HOW to study.

Regulatory exams are basically IQ & VOCABULARY tests. Know your terms.

Also, take some sample exams so you can get a feel for what the exams are like.

I did something similar except I had to use 3 x 5 index rocks.

Damn, I've been licensed a long time.

I took the class for both my L&H and my P&C. The class helped me. It used to be called "Leonard's" but they changed it to Kaplan, I think. But, I do suggest a class.

I've always been a good test taker naturally, so I can't give you any tips on test taking. However, maybe I can help you with some of the anxiety.

Getting a higher score is better than getting a lower score, but basically you just want to pass.

A lot of the information you need to know to pass the test will not be information you need on a day to day basis.

Just pass and then study your products. You will really need to know your products and SOME of the information on the test will be useful in that regard.

However, you will get a second chance to learn that stuff after you pass your test.

The best agents aren't always those with the highest scores.
