I am looking to build a career in the insurance idustry. I have a background in mortgage brokering, auto finance, auto insurance and aftersale products. I am currently licensed in nj as a producer but i am sure i need a different license to do P/C and such. Any sites/tips, companies to get started with. I am good a prospecting and don't mind investing money into leads to get going. Do you suggest i sign up with a company that lets me work on my own or find a company to get started with. I am IT friendly and learn very fast. Thanks!

Read and search this forum diligently. Talk to a lot of companies. Doing both of these things will help you sort out what you want to do and who you want to do it with. Try to find somone who can be a mentor for you.

thanks for the advice. I am doing some research and I guess i should see if any agents locally are looking for a producer. I guess when you work for someone else they aren't your clients and you do not get the residuals from them? One day i would like to be on my own with my own book of business. I need to get experience and fix my credit (i have issues right now). Hopefully someone can hire me with bad credit but clean criminal background ofcourse.

Good luck....you should get residuals but if you leave they may have a non-compete agreement and you can't try to sell to your old clients. Would try to look for a long term situation....not the end of the world though....you may want to check with Farm Bureau or independent agency.

definitely find a good mentor that you can work with closely. there are alot of good veteran agents on this forum with alot of insight. Also, check out the linkedin website. you can really leverage this sight and network well since you say your IT friendly
