I have a client family of 5 on tax return. husband makes around 20k a year and his daughter who is 26 makes about 8k a year. On the tax return, he claims his wife, a daughter and 2 grand kids. If he purchase insurance for himself through his job is only about $60/month for lowest cost but if with his wife then his premium is $450/month. I know that his wife will not qualify for any tax credit since she got health coverage offer through his job. But without tax credit they couldn't afford one either on marketplace or through his job. So at this point Can client appeal this and have anyone in here have done this before with success?? or is there any solution to help them. His wife is so in need of the health coverage but with $450/month they couldn't afford one...

Moral of the story, call the exchange and see what they feel like doing. From the sounds of it, they're pretty out of luck.

May qualify for medicaid, family of 5 cutoff (100%FPL) is $27,910 ($38,516 at 138%).

Not getting a subsidy, thank you "family glitch".

I agree with Ray. If his daughter with the income is filing her own taxes, they're definitely Medicaid. If not, then in a non-expansion state they're right at the border which might cause problems.
