Can Someone Explain the Medical Payments Option in a Home Policy

In other words if I choose $5000 as the option how is it covered and is that the limit per incident or per year?

& only for guests and invitees and trespassers who are hurt innocently. Not for residents of the household. This is different than auto insurance.
