I have been a life agent for the past two years but recently I am thinking about getting into P&C. I am bored with selling life insurance. I would really like to focus on commercial/business insurance but would offer personal also.
Could someone direct me on how to start in the P &C market?
Do you have to have an office or can you work from home?
What methods do you use to generate business?
Should I sign up with an agency or can I be independent and get contracted through a GA or direct?

You can start from home office and work with GA's. They require E&O and I can get you reasonably priced one.
I recommend to start with an indy agency to get trained before going on your own. There is a lot to learn .Where are you located?

I'm Maryland but would probably work VA and DC.

I have decided to work for someone else to learn the business before jumping in by myself. I just don't know where yet.

I own a brokerage and can tell you that going direct probably won't be an option. Requirements are too large and they aren't interested in contracting one agent. You have to learn the ropes first. Trying to run an agency with limited experience will almost definitely fail. You made the right choice.
