Hello ladies & gents. I am an independent life & annuity agent with what I think is a fairly large book of business in terms of households (approximately 500). Have been poking around the P&C forums thinking this is something I want to add (and transition over time as a main focus of my business) to my practice.
I've read of the difficulties of getting an indy P&C agency off the ground, and although I haven't actually asked any "clusters" or "aggregators" for help as of yet, I thought I may just cast my line out on this forum and see if something more personal ends up being my solution.
I'm wondering if I can partner with an existing agency, maybe close enough to me to partner, but far enough away that we're not stepping on each other. I would be looking for access to carriers, and a little bit of coaching (because I admittedly don't know what I don't know when it comes to P&C). Maybe help closing some bigger cases (but looking to focus on home and auto and volume).
Obviously help is not free, so the only thing I could offer would be overrides.
I am well funded and don't need any assistance with anything except a little bit of knowledge, and access to carriers.
One caveat to a deal though would be that I want to retain my ability to go completely on my own in the future, and retain all of my business. Not saying that I will, but I want to retain that option (been down that road on the L&H side, and not going there again!). I'm a younger guy and well capitalized, so I would be open to a longer term partnership and succession plan as well.
