A little help. Where could I find some good training on the commercial p&c side. I'm specifically looking for info on doing the business, running an agency, and/or industry best practices. I cannot seem to find anything when I google.

I am so confused by this post. The best training is experience. You can sit in a classroom all day for as long as you want and never be fully equipped. If you havent done it, dont go open an agency. Go be a producer for a while.

State Auto has a great program for new producers, but with pacesetter there is no training on running an agency/business side.

Westfield has a pretty good training program but it is geared towards new producers, mostly emphasizing on an understanding of coverage and reading/interpreting a policy; not running an agency.

I think indienoise said it best, if you're new to the game go work for an agency as a producer for a few years as experience is best training. Just about any class room training out there that is delivered by the insurance industry is probably going to teach coverage.

If you really want some class time a good option might be to check out your local trade association as some do offer classes geared towards agency operations and management. Like PIA or IIA.

I have to agree State Auto has a great program for new producers, Pacesetter Program. They offer it on both the personal and commercial side and even incorporates some basic sales training.
