I have been licensed since 1986 and was formerly employed by an agency and I wrote a lot of Contractor Trades risks. I have left and started my own agency. I have limited markets and am seeking a contract with a commercial lines company that embraces these risk.

Any ideas on companies that are contracting new agents?

Travelers can be competitive for contractors and have been appointing new agents. Have you tried them? They have been pretty aggressive in all lines it seems lately.

I have a contract with them via Smartchoice. I have commercial and have to use Insurance Center out of New York. Some of my prospects are to large gross sales wise. Other problem is writing roofers and framers.

They are competative on easier classifications and the write payroll and gross sales.

I would like a Grange contract but they already have too many agents in my area and are not appointing.

Are you working with any Union Contractors? I have a market for larger Union Contractors up to $20 mil revenue.

I passed one up this spring, Union Brick Mason, I had no market. I did write his non-union Masonry Business with Travelers. He runs this business solely to work between his union jobs he is awarded.

I could hit him up again if I had a market.

Sorry, I never saw your reply. I market a special work comp captive program for union bricklayers/masons. Plus they can write the GL and auto. Property could go anywhere. But let me know if you want to give them a try again. Also if you are coming across these on a regular basis I can get you in touch with my marketing rep and they would probably be interested in talking to you.

Sure, I lost 2 markets for Drywall CGL. I get them and painters all the time. Just had 3 roofing quotes in the middle of winter and had to use broker. I really need another outlet for CGL for Construction trades.

They won't look at roofers but Erie Insurance seems to be super competitive in the states where they write contractors. Ever spoken with them?

I looked at Erie but it has been 8 years ago? Are they making new agent appointments?

Doesn't hurt to ask. They're always open to discussion, especially in areas where they're low in market penetration
