The crisis has escalated:

African American Caucus request formal apology after U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters was cut off during state convention speech - LA Times

which says:

In a statement released late Wednesday, the Caucus said it had concluded an investigation with the Sacramento City Council and executive staff from the California Democratic Party executive staff to determine what transpired. They found the state party retained the event planning firm Frontrunner to produce the convention, attended by nearly 3,000 people from across the state. Frontrunner subcontracted the audio and visual work to a separate firm that has not been identified.

The caucus said it was an employee of that firm that approached Waters and interrupted her remarks by pulling the plug connecting her microphone to the audio system.​

Let me guess what happened. The state party had a contract for equipment rental to a certain time.

Maxine's speech went OVER the time, and the employee of the contractor did what he was told - pack away the equipment.

It's going to be an internal embarrassment because I doubt that a Republican owns the operation or they would not have been working for the state party.

Maybe Maxine simply did not understand that she was asked to be there just to be another pretty face to light up the place a little- but not to actually be heard.
