Everyone Offering a Service or Hiring - a Gentleman's Agreement

The quality of this board is taking a bit of a dive lately with the 24/7 billboard of services and contracts.

As someone who offers a service this is what I propose:

If any of us has an offer it goes in the offers section. Aside from that our signatures is our "ad." If any member of this board is interested in what we have to offer they have the option of clicking our ad.

Members are joining this board to ask about burgers and are met with "TRY OUR NEW ANGUS 1/3RD POUNDER!" That's quickly followed by Wendy's and Burger King. That's not why most members are here - they are here to find information and advice.

The irony is if you have something to offer, members are generally more prone to call or click on your website when you offer actual information.

So here's the gentleman's agreement and if you're offering a service or recruiting here it is - obviously including me:

There are no direct "pick me" messages in response to any posts. Offers = offer section. Your link is your ad. So if none of us has anything of substance to post let's not post anything in that particular thread.

So who's in.

As someone who has NOTHING to offer right now, I'm in! :)

Now after I 'know' the business better....

Im in. I dont offer contracts anyways I only produce myself..

Re: Everyone Offering a Service or Hiring - a Gentleman's Agreeme

That is the best idea I have heard here for a long time.

You can definitely put my name on that list.

Re: Everyone Offering a Service or Hiring - a Gentleman's Agreeme

Does it matter? I guess maybe I'm a bit negative, but.... with reason! The distractions are caused by those with few posts. Of course, those with few posts will not have read or seen this post, so they will go ahead and solicit their wares...

At the same time, I have no objection to someone who is looking for a CRM system to having Frank mention YIO. He does it with a low/no pressure sales approach, asks for no money upfront, try it, if you like it, buy it, type. I'm for that in response to a question.

Others push your association more than you do, which is the way it should be. Shows value.

Now, if you can come up with a rule that says the response (if it has an offer) has to be relevant to the question, then I'm all for it.

Of course, I sell nothing and I buy very little. I can support the "less is more" approach to advertising! It would need some teeth though.

Good idea but what if I suggest that with a $25 donation to a non-christian charity I will train an agent in how to sell zero premium life insurance? Must I still put that in the offers section?

Or better yet, if I don't get a respose there, just repost it in another forum like our resident "holier than thou," Dwayne.
