Farmer's Insurance Company Policies

I just started as a Career Agent for a Farmers Agency in St. Louis, MO and do not know if the agency requirements are reasonable or unfair. I'm paying $400 per month if I do not sell 25 property and casualty policies and four life policies. I am supposed to have office space - but it is never available and was not given an office key to enter office after hours or on weekends. How do I know if I have to put up with this? I feel like I am being taken advantage of iin other ways too. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I haven't kept up with the different captive agencies agent recruitment and incentive programs, so my info may be a bit dated....

I believe Farmers gives you a 'subsidy' for a while when you start out. In turn, you pay for some things, such as office space and your own advertising (you are in business for yourself). If your production meets 25/4 monthly, it sounds like your district manager may be covering some expenses for you, to entice you to meet a certain production level.

There are a lot of details left out of your statement above. In general, when you first start out on your own, regardless of what you do, you realize that there is a lot more to self-employment than the ads make it sound like.

I'd highly suggest a long talk with your district manager.

I wish you all the best. I myself am independent you have to ask yourself what are you getting from this deal? $400 No office, you have to sell 25 policies, and God knows what else and I am sure you are not at 100% contract. So if you are going to do all this work at least you should be paid for the work that you are going to do. I have a friend that is a manager for farmers, it was not for me.:nah:

CAD, sounds like to me that you need to find yourself a new DM? I am currently in the Reserve Program, and if I ever found myself in your situation, I would be asking questions.
