I was going to get peoples opinions on what may be too close to the holiday for FE mailers. If people are receiving the mailers on the week of Dec 17th-21st, I would think the returns would be normal. Would be people agree with this notion, or is this cutting it too close?

When I did my own mail I learned to not mail after the 1st week of Dec until Jan 1. There are still some responders but ther are so few that the cost per lead is very high. They are better than average leads though. Just the fact that they maild them in now means they are more willing to meet now as well. Everyone is not surrounded by family during the Christmas season.
Now that I pay per lead I do not take any leads for the period from the Sat. before Christma through New Year's day.
I believe a lot of people are too busy and broke as hell right now. Most will wait until next year to start back spending and to have more free time to buy insurance.
To give you an example, I need to get my garage door fix. But I'm going to wait until after cmas to fix it. If you mail me a Postcard right now, I would trash it. But if you wait until after Cmas, I would save it and call you.

I have to disagree. This is the busiest December I have had in a while. December has always been good due to calls I made in October and November. But I have not made an out bound marketing call in weeks. People are calling us.
We have some wanting to wait till next year but not many. I am taking a couple days to go to Reno for some drunken debauchery than back to it.
This is a great time to call current clients. Could save your January.

I actually see my business stay consistent through December until the last week of the year. Most people are in the "buying mood" because of Christmas. The way to look at them being broke is, if they get something they can afford at their lowest level of income then they'll be able to keep it come next holiday season.
