With all the issues with lead pirates, I got to thinking about having interested forum members jointly fund a lead generation site. Seems we have a wealth of talent here on the site design & SEO side (assuming we can get past the spitting contest on who does a better job).

My thoughts ran like this.

Set up site to generate health leads (or life, or Med supp, or . . .) or have a separate site for each line of coverage. I can't say which is better. Interested members would fund the initial set up and have first dib's on leads generated. Leads would be exclusive and priced accordingly.

This is not intended as a profit making venture but it doesn't need to lose money either.

Participating members could pick a limited number of zip codes on a preferential basis but would also have the ability to pick up leads out of their area if so desired.

I have no idea how much this would cost, or how much the leads would end up being. Can't say if it will generate a lot of volume or not. If I could get even 10 good leads a month to start I would be happy.

100 would be better but I can be patient . . .

I think you are on to something there. But there would be a lot of red tape and agents fighting also.

I've thought about this a lot myself. This is a lot easier than most think. To keep from having problems, only 1 person allowed per state, and that person pays for whatever % of leads their state generates. Any states generating leads without an agent on board will have the leads sold.

I'll take Michigan, and I'm serious. If you're serious, send me a PM Bob and I'd love to discuss this further.

I am very serious.

I initially thought of one agent per state but then it could be another fight club. Some states, like GA, TX, CA are large enough to either distribute on a rotational basis or by reserved zip code.

Of course I would be glad to buy all the GA leads and sell the ones I don't to other GA agents for a nominal handling fee . . .

Smaller states like MD that don't have any active agents on the board could be sold as you suggested.

I'm sure there are issues I have not anticipated, but surely we could do better than any of the lead pirates and we wouldn't have to hire SEAL's to do any clean up work.

I like this idea as well and would take Life leads in Maine as well as other states if I could.

I'm in. Dave and I might fight over a few zip codes, but then, he is south of me by about 1.5 million people, so maybe not.

I like separating it by lines of business. For instance, I don't do disability or long term care, and would like to see those leads get used.

Of course, I'm also up for getting 4 or 5 people to do some telemarketing and sharing leads with others. Having a small group of people doing this is usually far more efficient than a single person.

Near as I can tell, we need someone to:
- Drive the development of the site (the look and feel)
- Find a backend administrative system that passes out leads (I can do this, I've looked at them previously)
- SEO, more SEO, and setup campaigns
- Sell this to agents on the forum, based on rules developed by ????
- Setup rules on how this works

It would be interesting to see how this works out. Are the leads any better? Are they less expensive?
