Hi Friends,

I got wind that Freedom (Anthem Blue Cross) was in town pitching their SNP plans with their 'limited doctor' network?

LINK to their plans

Anyone use them?
  • What are the pros/cons of using them?
  • Who are their competitors?
I heard their Doctor network is small because they pay them on the back end vs. other MA ins.co's. ?

Thanks very much for the CONSTRUCTIVE input!

I've been writing them for about 10 years. They have their niche, clients who are insulin dependent. All the common insulin's including quick pens are $0-$5. Even in the donut hole.
They are also one of the, if not most consistent plans I've witnessed over the years.
I still only write them once a month or so.

Thanks Chaz.

Why are you only writing 1 a mth?

(seems like so many ppl are Diabetic) ?

Their doctor network is very dependent on the counties you work.
Around Tampa Bay, and up to Hernando County, Optimum has a good network.

Freedom is great in Citrus and Marion counties. Its ok in Orange.
Anywhere in between, not so great.

Can't really speak to how they are in SoFlo.

Their C-SNP for diabetics is one of the best.

Thanks Chaz.

Since doing educational seminars I've been writing more Med supps than MAPD. I'll only pull out the Careplus/Freedom/Wellcare option only as a last ditch effort.

After 10 years in the biz, I've seen how HMO's can really put people in a tight spot when they really need the coverage. If they just can't afford a med supp or don't want to, I'll urge to look at the PPO's first.
