The agency that I write commercial insurance for is contracting with Philadelphia. Anybody know anything about them? How do the stack up with ERIE as far as underwriting, premium, etc?

Haven't put any business with them yet. Had a couple E&O quotes come back too high and a declination on a package for an HOA. That's the extent of my experience with them so far. Erie doesn't write in CA so I can't compare the two.

All I can say is that the group I work with likes them and puts quite a bit of business with them. Apparently they do very well with contractors and service businesses. They don't have Erie, so I don't know how they compare.

They have a product called a flexi-plus5 that is very competitive. I use it to place D&O and EPLI...they are a very good company. I don't have much with them but what I have there I keep.

I have had some success with them.
Very good with my Health Club niche....
I don't have Erie, so I can't compare.

I used them a few times for a business coach and accountant for E&O/GL. They are pretty easy to do business with. I don't think Erie does E&O anyways but haven't sold with Erie yet as I'm going over their rates/classes this week with my District Manager.

Erie does not do E&O....years ago they did, no more.

I don't deal with Erie here in CA but Philly is a good company. They do some things that other standard carriers won't like health clubs as mentioned... along with Private Schools/Camps, Apartments with Section 8, Mobile Home Parks, Hotels/Resorts and Lodges, Amusement Parks, Horse Tracks, Human service stuff with hair on it (rehab clinics, shelters, group homes), Gun Clubs, Truck stops, Rafting tour companies, etc. They are a good company to have because they write some odd non standard type business in a admitted market with 15% commish.

I wrote a fairly large ($75K) armored car company with them and they were 20% below the rest of the quotes coming in from an owner that shopped it very hard.

PHLY is good when used for their target classes. Excellent with nonprofits, schools, and D&O/EPLI/Cyber risks.
