Some of you might of read my thread in the Life Insurance section on the forum (about Monumental Life).

If I do not go with them, what are some good companies that offer excellent training and a great first step to learn the industry and get your feet wet?

Also, does any insurance companies offer any base salary (besides Monumental Life) or atleast health benefits (besides Monumental Life)?

Help me out guys. You are veterans in insurance, I don't want to take a wrong first step.

Western Southern, Metlife, and American General all offer some initial salary.

I must be honest I think if you go in with low expectations and are willing to work hard you can get some decent training and make a little money doing it.

The trick is knowing when to get out and move on before you are brainwashed.

It is very easy for career agents to get "StockHolm Syndrome" and stay for years and years making no money but they just cant leave.

I sort of think that expectations and goals are even more important then what company you choose, but having said that there are some really bad companies out there.

Stick with the Met life, AGLA's, MOO, western so, and be prepared to be disappointed but always remember your goals.

I will also add that you would probably be surprised at how easy it can be to start out independent, there are some great resources on the forum that can give you support and training.

Met and Pru will have lots of resources, and probably orphan accounts for you to call on as a new agent.

The mutuals are good choices. Northwestern and New York Life will be pushier for productions (most likely) but will offer up some great training. Massmutual and Guardian are general agency style companies so it really depends on the agency near you. Some will have amazing resources and others won't.

All will have some sort of financing plan for you to work off.

Don't know much about Monumental, so I can't say much there.

I am assuming "Met" is MetLife? but what does "Pru" stand for?
