Can anyone share with me a reputable co. to contract with concerning Med Supp? Support, good %, and some training on product line would be a plus. Your assistance would be appreciated. I'm in Ga. & soon to be non res in Fla.

I'm uncertain if you are talking about an insurance company or a marketing company.

If you are talking about an insurance company there are many that are reputable. However, from my experience training is going to be somewhat lacking. (I'm holding back.)

This is not a good time to align yourself as a captive agent if you plan to work in the senior market. There are going to be some major changes coming soon and it is too early to know which way to turn.

In general, today, with the Med Supp market constantly changing regarding which companies are the most competitive I would be hard pressed to recommend any company for an agent to sign a captive contract with. That goes for an insurance agency as well.

For example, of the three companies I was writing for last year this time I am still writing for only one of them. The other two companies I am using now are new to me as of the first of this year.

With the information I currently have it looks like I will be bumping one of those three this fall and licensing with a new company. Seniors buy price, If I am not with what I consider the three most competitive then I am not going to write very much business.

Word around the campfire is that today, Med Supp is not the best market for FL right now, but depending on the reform that is forthcoming, that may all change; we wait and see. I think Frank is right on about captive and expecting much for training and support. There are many of us on this board that operate our own agencies, and many of us provide constant training, coaching and administrative support. Some agencies just want you to go out and figure it out on your own. This way, you go out and sell a few policies, get frustrated and quit without much effort or expense on the agencies end of it. The agencies keep the book, and keep the renewals. All they have to do is prey on the next new agent to go out and sell a few before they get frustrated. This is some people's actual business plan.

Then there are those of us that know the value in long-term relationships and the value of making someone successful. Look around, ask people questions and find out what those you feel comfortable talking to are doing and how they can help.
