...Always wanted to say that
Hi I am out in California,
Started working in Ins. for a local broker a year or 2 after being out of High School. Its now been about 10 years since that time. I have been working in the industry on and off, mostly on.
A few years back I thought I wanted to pursue an Agent position with SF and the Agent I worked for was great, 30 years in the industry, I have definitely only but good things to say about him, a great mentor really, and that's what made me realize that that road was not for me. Everything seemed great and set up in a way for me to feel comfortable and confident about pursuing a career with SF...
Thing is, even though I am good at building relationships, getting to know a prospect and selling because of that, I just truly never felt comfortable offering just one product from one company to a client. It never really clicked up there why with the fact that every client is different, why do I only have one product from one company to offer? I don't mean this as in I was not able to tailor that one product to that one client, that was not a problem. The problem was I just never fully bought into the idea of one size fits all.
Also, if the client does not meet the specific underwriting guidelines for a company, you're screwed, you just lost that policy because you cant write it.
And if you add to that that I saw first hand the crazy amount of pressure new agents are put under with their sales quotas, I said no way I'm not doing this. If I'm going to bust my ass is because of my own drive, not because I have a Regional Sales Manager breathing down my neck and stopping by constantly "to see if I need any help."
Things happen in weird ways really, fast forward to some months ago, I randomly sent my resume to a job posting I had seen on one of these career sites. I was contacted by them and I truly feel positive about pursuing this. I want Life Ins. to be my bread and butter.
I just got started because I had other things going on but I'm all in. Things are finally making sense. This semester I went back to school, taking classes at my local community college, goal of that is to pursue a degree in Accounting and becoming a CFP. I love numbers, like you have no idea.
Anyway, the end goal is that in 3-4 years I will have a solid book of business with life and cross sell them then to my independent financial services as well.
I'm not planning on selling policies and just disappearing and then 3 years later "hey remember me? I'm your life insurance agent."
I think we are in the business of building relationships, especially with the changes coming with technology and more direct to client companies.
Sooo anyway, I know its a very long post but I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and have come across so much valuable information, looking forward to contributing if possible and most definitely learning.
Thanks!!
