Grateful for the Biz but Grateful that It's Over

Even though I'm grateful that I've seen a lot of ancillary business out of all this, I'm still glad that open enrollment is finally over. A lot of heartache involved trying to figure all of this out. I don't quite think we're out of the woods yet. When next open enrollment comes, I wonder how much more will be different ?

I think next OEP will be better and worse. Better because some of the bugs will be worked out of the system. Better because we know a little more about how this system is working. Worse because there are going to be a lot of people changing plans and many additional people that gave up or didn't try this first time that will want insurance.

My only hope is that HHS will finally acknowledge the importance of brokers.

We might not have to wait until the next Open Enrollment. Sylvia Burwell (Sebelius's replacement) will want to beef up her resume by making some dramatic "enhancements".

How does year-around Open Enrollment with a 3 month pre-existing condition exclusion sound? (No Pre-X for newborns, sudden loss of coverage, etc..)

Sounds like garbage, but I wouldn't put it past them.

They have this big expensive factory (hc.gov) which took YEARS to build, that's pretty much sitting idle. It can be re-tooled and fired back up to start manufacturing Democratic votes for November...and beyond.

Wait, so what would be the ramification of all this ? And how would they enforce having coverage if you can apply at any time ?

Same way they do now.

AC makes a good point. This open enrollment BS has got to go. Will only get worse, not better. Never made sense except to bureaucrats lacking real world experience.
