Greetings from Missouri!
Until earlier this year, I had a successful and distinguished career in business to business sales, working predominantly within the Hospitality Industry. I liked what I did for a living (for the most part!) and the compensation package worked well for me. Earlier this year, the territory went through some dramatic changes in terms of the customer distribution and despite my best attempts to keep the terriory viable, I was informed that the company would be eliminating my territory. I found myself on the job market. I also found myself thinking that being self-employed might be a good idea for me.
The first "wave" of people that contacted me were in the insurance industry (something that I knew absolutely nothing about previously) and for the most part, I did not follow-up with the people that contacted me. I wasn't inticed by their messages. I wasn't interested in learning more about them. I did research and found disparaging remarks about most of them (Combined Insurance, United American.)
Then NASE / MEGA came along... I fell for their pitch... I researched them, but I guess that I didn't look in the right places. I had no idea how many people hae been burned by them. That was earlier this fall.
Since then, I have received my license, gone though training, and I actually sold a couple of policies. Then I started to get leads for people who had actually heard of NASE / MEGA and the negativity of their responses when receiving a call from me prompted me to start researching again. That is when I found this forum. That is when I found an abundance of information about the NASE and MEGA that really opened my eyes.
What have I gotten myself into? What do I do now?
I've lost months of valuable time, and I've invested a lot of myself into "working the system" and learning about the industry. I have very little to show for it, with the exception of a few hundred dollars, a couple of worthless certificates, and a distinct feeling that I have been duped.
I have a question for those of you that started out like me, and (from what I have read on these forums) realized that the products being marketed could actually end up hurting people. How did you make that realization? What was your next move? How long did it take for you to accept the fact that "you might have your wagon hitched to the wrong horse?" How did you find the "right horse"?
I wish that I would have found this forum sooner!!!
