Group Coverage Expiring and Pregnat

I am a relatively new agent and have been dealing mainly with individual plans. A client of mine is getting married. His future wife is on a BCBS group plan through her dad (GM retiree). She is getting kicked of that plan in the begining of 2010 because she will be over the max dependent age of 25. If she gets pregnat before the expiration of the group plan, how would bcbs treat the situation? Is it possible they would extend her group plan until after the birth? Or would she be eligible for COBRA?

Federal COBRA for 36 months then HIPAA GI if necessary.

Loss of dependent status is 36 months federal COBRA, as are divorce/separation and death of the employee.

Oddly, death of the employee would not provide the survivors with the 9-month 65% subsidy as the IRS considers that to be a voluntary termination (you can't make this stuff up :D)

Geez, Dave, I guess that the government takes the viewpoint that all cases are related to a "death wish", thus, it is a voluntary termination.:goofy:

Wait until your client sees the cost of Cobra for a GM plan!

You will need to find her another option.
