Health Care Reform Sticks It to Connecticut Children

It looks like none of the companies insuring individuals and families in Connecticut will be offering new standalone children's policies after the 9/23 mandates go into effect.

I thought that the mandates were about reducing the uninsured population and not increasing it.

Health care reform is hurting children in my state.

OMG they killed Kenny (because he was uninsurable under the new mandates)! Those b%&**!@ds!

You're right. It isn't funny. Not at all.

Same thing here. Right now, Blue and Celtic are maybe's. The rest are non-starters.

Kick in the pants #2 are the new rates. Sky high and going higher if the kid is sick. Parents who want to insure the kids (as a dependent of course) will have to sell an organ to pay the premium.

Anthem Blue Cross of Connecticut hasn't made an announcement yet regarding this issue, but they would be fools to insure children if everybody else is refusing them. The adverse selection could be enough to put them out of business.

I know we had an imperfect system before, but now? Who the frying pan knows what other unintended effects we are going to have as more of the mandates go into effect.

Someone on a consumer forum posted a question about this a few days ago. COBRA expiring, parents uninsurable, kids in good health but no one will issue a policy for 10/1.

How long before the MSM picks this up as a flaw in Obamacrap?

More like how long before they are forced to insure child only or get blocked from exchange.

I think such a law is already pending in CA.

I'm so sick of these not-so-thinly-veiled threats from Obama & Co.

For once I wish the insurance companies would stick together, stick out their chests and shout out a collective:

Screw you!

NONE OF US ARE GOING TO WRITE EXCHANGE PLANS!

Now whatcha gonna do Big Brotha?

I just went to www.celtic-net.com and quoted a 1 year old male, zip 06901 (Stamford Conneticut),with a 9/22/2010 effective date. Plans are available starting at $110 @ month.

I changed the date to 9/23/2010 and suddenly NO plans are available. The page that renders say this:

"Celtic Ins. Co. requires the first applicant to be at least 19 or older. Feel free to call 800-779-7989 to discuss your options with one of our helpful insurance representatives."

In Illinois, BCBS will be the only company (that I'm aware of) writing child-only policies..and at ZERO commissions.

Always a dangerous game to play when the other side has the ability to legislate/regulate you out of business. You at least have to be able to win in the court of public opinion. Americans may be waking up to the reality of Obama and Obamacare, but that doesn't mean they like health insurers yet.

Obama's spin on all of this when he's back on the campaign trail will be "Just look at what the greedy, evil health insurance companies do after we enact legislation to help all Americans."

And you want to know the problem? A lot of people are going to buy it.

And you want to know the problem? A lot of people are going to buy it.

That was the plan all along. they couldn't get people to go for the "public option" right away so they wrote the law to make things far worse with the plan being to blame it on evil insurers and "the free market". Comrad Ogabe will have them crying out for the "public option" by 2014.
