I recently have been hearing about new health insurance law to come effect in/ by 2014, so I was wondering is now a good time to enter the health care market for self an employed agent?

Yes, but only if you are in to self mutilation and can room with some buddies under a bridge somewhere.

The good news is, everyone will buy health insurance or pay a nominal fine.

The bad news is, no one will be able to afford it.

Kind of like requiring everyone to buy a car, but it can only be an $80,000 electric car.

Yes, the market for health insurance will be going through some tough times, with some employers dropping coverage and electing the exchange route. (Assuming the law remains) However, self-funding is exempt from this, and if you wanted to market these types of programs, it could become profitable to you.
