Hello from a New Member in NC

I am an experienced Sales and Sales Management professional mostly in the retail space and have decided there has got to be a better "Life". Over the years I have spoken with a several friends in different parts of the insurance industry and the residual income and the sense of being able to truly build a business without "brick and mortar" costs up front is very appealing to me.

I am already working on my pre-licensing course work and plan to complete my state test within the week. I was advised that getting simply Life & Health was the best place to start to get into the industry so that is my current plan.

My goal here is to use the vast abundance of knowledge to better prepare myself for success in this venture in the long run but also to see if some of the experts can help me be sure I make some decisions correctly.

My big concern is I have an opportunity with a large privately owned marketing group to start as an independent agent and then I have some other opportunities with direct insurance companies. I can see benefits to both but never being in the business want to be sure I am not overlooking anything that 6 months from now I say that's the question I should have asked. As an independent I may have more flexibility to find my own niche sooner without being restricted to certain product or families of products as well as higher commissions. However, with the companies there could potentially be much better training available and structure provided but at the same same time I have read stories of many companies with promises of great training that never happens in the industry.

Any help or guidance to someone giving really hard thought to joining your industry would be extremely appreciated.
