Hello from Arkansas

Hello Everyone -

My name is Sean Wright and after a few hours of browsing this website I felt led to join the group!

I've worked at Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield as an internal agent for several years and just got a job at Colonial Life as a Benefits Consultant.

Being about two weeks old in the external sales business I learned very quickly that I'm very good at product knowledge and speaking with clients but I'm not so great at prospecting. I feel that going door-to-door to get new clients comes across as desparate and looking for better ways - like referrals.

I'm working on a marketing plan that includes a website and sending out emails that direct people to the site. Any pointers to the new guy is much appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the group

wishing you the best with your new endeavor at Colonial, was with them myself for a couple of years back around 2000-2002

Welcome.

In your planning don't forget to include ways to keep in touch with your clients and always make sure you provide excellent service after the sale. Selling yourself in addition to selling the policy will set you aside from a lot of other agents.

Referrals are earned not just given because the agent asks for them. Selling "you" to them and will build trust and loyalty. If a client likes and trusts you they will be more than willing to recommend you to others.

If you are "just another insurance agent" to them it is doubtful that they will go out of their way to recommend you to others.

Good luck and if I can ever help give me a call.

Sean, I would rather appear desperate and be making money opposed to looking rico suave and being broke.

In external sales the one factor that will determine success more than anything else is the ability to prospect. Prospecting whether through referrals, a website, or door knocking will either make you or break you.
