Since you are just entering the insurance industry, it doesn't really matter how the industry has changed over the years. Suffice it to say that there are less career shops (captive agencies) than previously, forcing new agents to seek training from FMOs/GAs. National agent associations, which once were a source of training and networking, are suffering from dwindling memberships and rising costs. The American College still has some great home study professional designations that used to be classroom based. Various government encroachments and legislation have hampered marketing and sales activities. Nevertheless there still are many opportunities for success.
