My apologies. I should have done this awhile ago, instead of just jumping in on others threads. Some people were mistaking me, understandably, as an FE agent, which I know nothing about.
I have been in the health insurance market for 10 years with cross selling life, critical illness, and disability...a lot less life and disability than critical illness.
I am on my own with two prolific agents under me. Very small operation, and I don't even consider it an agency. I'm independent and like it this way. I learned at a good company from 2004 - 2009.
I used to be "spoiled" with Assurant, with a 25% 12 month advance, and after the march 2010 ACA deal, that was all down hill from there, as a lot of you know.
As Assurant's premiums rose and commissions dropped, I focused primarily on selling United Health which had decent health premiums, esp with HSAs and cross selling mostly the critical illness, and of course by default life and disability. I liked UHs bonus programs, so that's why.
Now, I wrote UH, Health Plus, and BC/BS for the last 3 or so years, until Mar 31st. And of course, no more health insurance can be sold really, so for the first time started primary focus on life, critical illness, and disability.
I've been signed up for this forum since 2011, back when I was considering jumping ship altogether and getting out of the biz. But, then continued with the lower structure and just sold more CI, and supps.
So it looks to me like there are a ton of FE agents in here, and I wonder if their are so many bc of no more health insurance commissions (except basically renewals and those who qualify for SEP, which so far has been ONE deal)...
I am also wondering how many health insurance agents, started doing what I am doing??
It's been a little bit of a struggle for me, going from a single mom who was able to make a great living selling health (thank goodness my kids are grown except one 16 yr old), to kind of a fumbling primarily life, CI and DI agent.
Has anyone found a way to make up for the lost commissions from health? So far, I feel like I am on a daily treadmill to make just half of what I used to make.
I go back and forth between a great few weeks to a gnarly few weeks. Just depends. Also, I am primarily cold calling. I am doing just ok with this...
Any suggestions would be very appreciated. One thing I am thinking of doing is walking and talking to fire depts. with a DI plan specifically for Firemen? Any ideas??
