Mi.
My apologies. I should have done this awhile ago, instead of just jumping in on others threads. Some people were mistaking me, understandably, as an FE agent, which I know nothing about.

I have been in the health insurance market for 10 years with cross selling life, critical illness, and disability...a lot less life and disability than critical illness.

I am on my own with two prolific agents under me. Very small operation, and I don't even consider it an agency. I'm independent and like it this way. I learned at a good company from 2004 - 2009.

I used to be "spoiled" with Assurant, with a 25% 12 month advance, and after the march 2010 ACA deal, that was all down hill from there, as a lot of you know.

As Assurant's premiums rose and commissions dropped, I focused primarily on selling United Health which had decent health premiums, esp with HSAs and cross selling mostly the critical illness, and of course by default life and disability. I liked UHs bonus programs, so that's why.

Now, I wrote UH, Health Plus, and BC/BS for the last 3 or so years, until Mar 31st. And of course, no more health insurance can be sold really, so for the first time started primary focus on life, critical illness, and disability.

I've been signed up for this forum since 2011, back when I was considering jumping ship altogether and getting out of the biz. But, then continued with the lower structure and just sold more CI, and supps.

So it looks to me like there are a ton of FE agents in here, and I wonder if their are so many bc of no more health insurance commissions (except basically renewals and those who qualify for SEP, which so far has been ONE deal)...

I am also wondering how many health insurance agents, started doing what I am doing??

It's been a little bit of a struggle for me, going from a single mom who was able to make a great living selling health (thank goodness my kids are grown except one 16 yr old), to kind of a fumbling primarily life, CI and DI agent.

Has anyone found a way to make up for the lost commissions from health? So far, I feel like I am on a daily treadmill to make just half of what I used to make.

I go back and forth between a great few weeks to a gnarly few weeks. Just depends. Also, I am primarily cold calling. I am doing just ok with this...

Any suggestions would be very appreciated. One thing I am thinking of doing is walking and talking to fire depts. with a DI plan specifically for Firemen? Any ideas??

I used to by based out of Troy area, I was engaged three years ago and moved up near Mt Pleasant. I am 45 minutes west of Saginaw and 45 minutes north of Lansing. This has also been a major change that I have had to get used to. It's a very rural area.

It is beautiful, but I have to be very creative as the population is 25k. The people who live there are either working at CMU with a full range of benefits or they are students there, reservation dwellers, and/or very low income. lol

Thank you Xrac for the welcome.

No it was Dan Hagy in the beginning, then I was a GA. Awhile ago. I'm no longer selling Assurant. Maybe will again one day. Never heard of Patrick. Is he in mount pleasant area?

Patrick was our RSD before we became an MGA, really good guy. If you need an Assurant GA contract let me know.

Ok, thanks. You never know. Pardon all the typos, on phone. Keeping it small and simple. Do not need near the money I once did.

After what happened with last MGA, it be a long hard decision to go that route again. Burned bad...everything happened from stolen commissions to sending out an army to cherry pick my book with bold deceit. No offense. But I use Dan Hagy for anything I may need a higher manager for or for contracts, or I go direct. Dan is the one guy still paying me every cent I earned from day one. Hope you can understand and aren't offended by that...although u never know. Its good to have options. Thanks.

I totally understand, there are just as many good people as bad in this business. We have some agents and agencies that use only our contracts, others use just our platform, and some use both. No pressure on this end at all. Check out our website to get a better ideal of what we do katalyst-mga dot com
