Hello... From NC

Hello,
Im Johnny from Wilmington, NC. I currently work as a police officer but trying to make the switch to Insurance agent. I see people who are 55 years old and about to retire that look 80 and only make $60k per year. So I decided that if im going to work 50+ hours a week, nights, holidays and so on, I would rather reap some reward out of it. Im 26 years old and plan on obtaining my h&l and p&c license in the next 2 months. My ideal situation would be to work from a home office selling h&l and sup. If anyone is near Wilmington and would like to help me get started or if anyone would like to offer advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Hello, and welcome to the Board.

Interesting that out of the first 5 responses, two are simply recruiting. One is a new greggor; the other is the winner of the 2010 spammer of the year. And I am aware that you pretty much asked for this in your post but it's amazing how fast the recruiters show up.

Welcome to the forum and ignore anyone here simply to "help" you make them money.

If you want advice, then many people here will be glad to help you without recruiting. The simple answer is that most insurance agents do not make over $60K and certainly do not retire with the benefits you will have.

Unless you really hate your job, you will likely do better in the long run by sticking it out. That being said, money can be made in selling insurance; many of us do very well. But rarely will anyone consider themselves successful for many years.

Rick
