Hello from NY

Hello Everyone,

Well let's start of by saying ny name is Mike. I am from New York, NY. I have been in the insurance industry since 1999. In 2005 I decided to stop selling but the industry kept calling me. I was only focusing on Life, annuities and mutual fund to complement our tax preparation business. Since then I have joined a Medicare Advantage carrier in NY. I still see potential in this market and looking to explore it more.

Now in 2009 we have formed a new company and partnership join all our knowledge in the insuance/financial services field. At the same time I have been looking at this forum for some time now. I have decided to join so I can learn some new things and also try to share some of my knowledge also.

Are consumers not the same there as they are else where?


Consumers - Yes; Legislation - No. Insurance companies in the great state of NY have many many restrictions placed on them by DOI. Everything from maximum commission amount to domicile status, and agency laws are different in NY than they are in any other state.

I do understand the restrictions as set forth by the NY DOI, as they relate to commissions, agency requirements, and etc...........

I thought you might have an inside track on what NY consumers actually thought, and their buying habits; or lack thereof.

question for you, how has the tax preparation and insurance combination worked out for you? do you find you get a lot of leads back and forth?

Tax preparation has helped out greatly because of all the lead exchanges. We have been able to cross-sell them because we do an analysis on every client.
