Hello from San Antonio

Hello,

I am a recent transplant to San Antonio from Austin. I've enjoyed reading the posts on here and have gotten some new insights into the current market for agents in this tough economy. I've been in the industry for about 12 years as an associate agent for four Nationwide agents in Texas since the early 90's (primarily P&C). I'm currently looking to join a growing independent or captive agency primarily as a producer/CSR. I was the top producer in a 9.5M agency. It seems that the captive agents in most companies are struggling a little more than the independents. Most of the Nationwide agents are really struggling at the moment. Any insights on this? I've been looking for over 4 months and it seems that the career opportunities in San Antonio are pretty limited at the moment. If anyone may know of a potential agency to approach, it would be appreciated.

Actually, I've made attempts at some of the call centers here and haven't had any luck. I've gotten to various interview stages with USAA and Allstate but the pay is rather poor and the process takes along time (1-2 months). I'm also aware a call center environment is different than working as a close team in an agency. This city is a parodox since Nationwide, Allstate, Hartford and others all have call centers but then have agents as well. I wish they would put their efforts behind the agency model.

I'm looking for a Producer/CSR position. Salary plus commission or similar. Medical coverage a plus. Altogether about 30-35k to start until I prove myself.

I would stay with nationwide, recent product changes have helped nationwide agents across TX. You know the system and the guidelines. Look into their ACB Program, Shane Walker is the manager in SA call him 210-800-7083. That program is second to none, you have nothing to lose by hearing what he has to say about the program
