Just thought take the plunge and say Hello.
I've enjoyed "lurking" and learning around here for a few days.
I am an "new" independent agent in the DFW area. I'll be selling MA, MedSups and Final Expense to begin with.
Just starting on my own so I sure could use any help you may have to offer.

I guess that was quite open ended wasn't it?

Just looking for any suggestions on what has brought sucess in your business.

A little background:

I've been in insurance for @ 4 years.

My first experience was in the Senior market working as a captive agent for a company selling Med Sups, Dental and FE. Worked at that for a few months doing what they called warm calling offering "Changes in Medicare" kinds of appointments. Felt like I was doing community service work instead of making a living. Don't get me wrong Community Service is good. But it didn't put food on the table. I didn't make enough money to sustain me so I went to work selling auto insurance for a direct company in a call center.
I found a great deal of sucess with that until AIG took them over. You know what happened with AIG. They laid off most of the agents (my turn never came) and did what they could to drive off the agents that were left.
I just couldn't take it anymore so I left.

I really like working with Seniors so I have decided to go back into that market on my own terms. Non-captive. I want to be able to offer what Seniors need. The best rates and the best companies.

I will be posting some questions in the other threads as I do have some questions. Questions like who contracts with independents, and how to generate leads.....

Thanks for your response!
