Hello! I ran across this site while I was doing research on opening up an insurance agency. Now I am going for my exam here in a week or two, and am slightly estatic about it. In addition to selling insurance, I am interested in finance, technology, philosophy, among other things. I am from the Northern Lower Penninsula, and am currently studying Economics at a community college.

Now on that note, I was wondering what your thoughts on some marketing ideas (after I get my license). I live in a smaller town (15,000 downtown), and is mainly composed of older people. For selling supplemental insurance such as Medicare Advantage and part D, would it be a good idea to cold call (since the majority of seniors still have land lines)? And would an ad in a local advertiser paper be a good idea for lead generation? The paper has a circulation of 28,000 per week, and cost only $28 per week. Any thoughts or other ideas for advertising supplemental or specific coverage (IE, cancer) insurance? Thanks

Zach (Common Mutual Insurance)

Welcome to the forum. Med Supps is a great market to build your client base, because baby boomers are entering that market by the thousands. There's a forum dedicated to the Senior market, and if you search through that forum you will get answers to a lot of your questions. Good luck to you.

Welcome, advertising is usually too expensive. That sounds cheap but will it be effective? Do any agents advertise in it now? That may help you answer the question.

Welcome to the forum and I agree with your assumptions. I believe most homes still have a land line. Also, the age range of the reader would correspond with your target audience.
