Hello to all of you. I found this forum while doing some online research on farmers. After doing a lot of reading in the forums, I decided to join and post. I see that there is a lot of people in my current situation. I am looking to start an insurance career. I don't have a lot of insurance background. I held a life insurance in my state of Utah but didn't do much with it and it expired as of last October. Now I am looking for a new opportunity in this industry. I recently had an interview with Farmers and I am considering joining them as a reserve agent. After some research I am really confused as to what to think of this opportunity. I have read some bad reviews of Farmers and it seems that rates are not very competitive and that can't help a new potential agent starting out. I have just solicited information from American Family to see what kind of opportunities they have to become an agent. I have personally have had good experiences with them as a customer so I figured why not explore the possibilities there as well. Sorry about the long story in my introductory post, but I have so many questions. I am really glad that I found this forum as it has already been very helpful in my first day. I hope to stay here for a long time to come. Please feel free to share any advice as I will really appreciate it. Thanks to all of you for the information you share.

Re: Hello to All. Newbe Here.

Welcome! I think American Family is a better opportunity than Farmers.

Re: Hello to All. Newbe Here.

Thanks for your replies. I have a phone interview with American Family tomorrow so I am hoping all goes well. I think I will probably try to start with the "agent-in-training" to get the experience necessary to run a successful agency. Any of you have any experience on this? It is supposed to be a 13 month training, which seems pretty long but i guess not if you really want to learn the ins and out of the business. I am curious to find out what it consists of and if I get compensated at all during this time. Well I hope I can make it through tomorrows interview. I will keep you guys updated. Thanks again and please continue to share your opinions. I do appreciate them.

Hello and welcome Kim. Yes this forum is very interesting and helpful. I have only been here for a few days and have learned a lot. I haven't posted much since I am new to the industry and don't have much knowledge to share, but I have been doing a lot of reading. Hopefully soon I can start contributing knowledge as well.

I had the phone interview with American Family and filled out the application and other forms Yesterday. Now I have to wait for the background, criminal, credit report and all that come back. I hope to hear from them soon. After speaking with them, I agree that they seem like a better opportunity than Farmers. Their process is very lengthy but that is a good thing in my opinion.

Better to be over qualified then under qualified.
