Hey guys,

New to independent agent, help me on designing business card please.
I plan to put logos from 4 different insurance companies like ING, kaiser permanente etc. Which 4 should I choose, mutual of omaha, genworth, allianz, john hancock, etc etc.

I plan to input "Authorized Insurance Agent, Trusted companies, top ratings, best prices. Call for a free quote today"

Let me know what you think,

Thanks,
Kyle

You might want to think twice about putting company logos on your business card for a couple of reasons.

First, you should be selling yourself first - not the companies you represent. (Sell your company next and sell everything else, including the companies and products you represent last.) That's how to start building the relationship. Get your own logo and use only that one on your card.

Second, what happens if you no longer represent a particular company? Now you're stuck with business cards that aren't accurate that you may be tempted to use up, but really need to be replaced.

You might want to check if using other logos on your business cards without expressed consent is trademark infringement as well.

you'll get terminated very quickly if the insurance company finds out and you did not have their permission. Anytime you put anything in print representing the carrier, you need carrier approval.

Also, even the word "best" might be a violation in your state. This is a tricky business (even moreso if you have a securities license on top of it) Using superlatives like "best" "lowest" and the like that are a no-no even if you can demonstrate that they are. As always, there is always a difference between what you can get away with and what is compliant. I am just saying what may or may not be compliant in your state and then you need to add some research on top of it.

Business cards do not sell insurance. The purpose of a business card is to give a prospect a convenient way of having your contact information handy.

The more information you try to cram on a little business care the more difficult it is for the information to be seen. Using words like "authorized insurance agent" says nothing. As opposed to what? An unauthorized agent. Who would that be?

My business card says in large letters across the middle of it "Your Insurance Agent". Under that in smaller letters is my name. The lower left and right corners have my contact information.

That says it all. It lets them know that I am an insurance agent and how to get in touch with me. That's all they really want to know. It is up to me, the agent, to communicate the rest of the information I feel that they need.

Fancy, detailed, "full of information" business cards are to make the agent feel warm and fuzzy. However, they very seldom impress the prospect or make them want to buy insurance.

Forget filling the back of the card with information also. People are not going to keep your card just because you have a "tip chart" on the back. People are perfectly capable of figuring how much 20% of the bill is. If they can't figure how much of a tip to leave then they probably shouldn't be eating in a restaurant to begin with. :D

By "you" it means you are the "Brand", the label- the "it". If you are busy promoting all the big insurance companies, well, then that customer will just go direct with them- NOT you. Remember, less is more! Keep it very simple, but not cheap looking. Always have that professional look. Best of luck.
