HHS issued yet another mandate on Wed 8/17/11. Another federal burden in addition to the rules that many states are constantly throwing into the pot. For instance, Illinois is requiring that documents like the ones described in this Kaiser Health News article also be published in Espanol.

New Rules Would Help Consumers Comparison Shop For Health Plans - Kaiser Health News

I wonder if/when we'll see a big exodus of health insurance companies from the marketplace? A few have left, but there are over 900 companies still doing business. Hardly a month has gone by this year where HHS hasn't placed additional financial burden on insurers. How can they keep their Administrative costs low if the government keeps requiring more administration??? :nah:

I could be mistaken, but aren't those called Outlines of Coverage, which we're required to provide when we sell a policy?

Let me see if I understand.

Congress passes a 2,300 page law that no one read. HHS has to issue guidelines to tell carriers what the law was SUPPOSED to say.

And now HHS has the gall to demand a readable contract?

Great Point!

I see it as the Post Office Job Creation Regulation. 44 cents vs. $1000. Expect lots of duplicates:

Summaries are required both before and after enrollment and may be delivered in paper and/or electronic format. There are specific requirements for group vs. individual plans. The penalty for 'willful' non-compliance is up to $1,000 per enrollee for each failure to comply
